Chax plug-in for iChat

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

Those of you who use a Mac, and that are fans of iChat will almost certainly want to take a look at Chax. Chax is a plug-in for iChat that brings a few missing features to Apple’s Instant Messaging system.

Two most notable are the ability to integrate my beloved Growl, and a clever little log viewer.

Safari 4 Beta

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Well Safari 4 Beta has arrived and first impressions are good. Fast, a couple of eye candy treats such as Coverflow, and seems very good at rendering HTML/CSS, given that it scores 100/100 on the Acid3 test.

However, a word to the wise…

I primarily use the Mac, and am a big fan of Growl, and by installing Safari 4 (along with it’s WebKit), seems to have an adverse affect on my beloved Growl, when notifying from Mail.
This is covered in detail by Peter Hosey (the Lead Developer at Growl), in his blog. Included within this is a temporary fix to still allow use of Growl, just with Mail notifications disabled.

Still, this is Safari 4 Beta after all, and it’s definitely worth a look.

Hello iPhone…

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

My old Sony Ericsson died, and it was just the excuse I needed to get an iPhone.

If anyone is still undecided, let me help you…get one!

Very sexy, and a pure delight to operate.

I suppose it’s functional as well! Love that fact that pulls all my email from various accounts.

And loving the Application store. Here’s a few of my recommendations:

  • AirMe
  • eBay Mobile
  • Facebook
  • iFooty
  • ITN News
  • midomi
  • MMS Photo Messaging
  • Remote
  • Sky+
  • Skype
  • TwitterFon
  • uTrackMe Lite
  • Wunder Radio

It’s been snowing!

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

We don’t get it often here in the south of England, and yes it’s only an inch (if that!), but it’s still snow.

Shame my office is in my house…
